Corrections Policy
Our corrections policy explains how readers can report outdated utility information and how we manually review updates.
Corrections Policy
waterutilities.org/ aims to publish accurate, practical, human-reviewed utility information. If a page has an outdated official link, wrong phone number, moved payment portal, changed address, unclear instruction, or missing safety warning, we want to review it.
What We Correct
- Broken links to official utility, city, county, public works, or water authority pages.
- Outdated billing phone numbers, emergency numbers, service addresses, or office hours.
- Changed payment portals, assistance links, leak adjustment pages, or start-service forms.
- Confusing office-role explanations.
- Missing warnings around emergencies, boil water notices, payment fees, or shutoff issues.
- Formatting, mobile usability, and accessibility issues.
What We Cannot Correct
We cannot change official utility records, customer account balances, payment histories, meter readings, shutoff decisions, reconnect timelines, rates, fees, service addresses, or public notices. Those must be handled with the official provider.
How to Request a Correction
How We Review Corrections
Correction requests are manually reviewed. We compare the reported issue against official sources where possible. If confirmed, we may update the page, replace a link, change phone/address details, add a warning, clarify the office role, or rewrite a section.
If a report cannot be fully verified, we may still adjust wording to make the page safer, such as telling readers to verify the latest detail on the official utility website.
Account-Specific Problems
If your actual utility bill, payment, shutoff notice, service order, or leak adjustment is wrong, contact the official utility customer service department directly. Our corrections policy applies only to website content on waterutilities.org/.
