What is reclaimed water? Highly treated wastewater for nondrinking uses; it is clear, nonstaining, odorless and monitored/tested 24/7. Use for intended irrigation uses only.
Can I drink it? No. Drinking reclaimed water is not allowed. Do not connect reclaimed system to drinking-water plumbing.
Can I use it inside? No. It cannot be used inside dwellings, for human/animal consumption, to fill pools/spas, vehicle washing or residential AC cooling. Keep reclaimed water outdoors and properly marked.
Can I use a hose/spigot? Orange County does not allow spigots on residential reclaimed water systems. Use approved in-ground irrigation systems only.
Can I water vegetables? Fruits/vegetables usually peeled, skinned or cooked may be irrigated; raw unpeeled crops need drip irrigation and cannot be sprayed directly. Do not spray lettuce/tomatoes directly with reclaimed water.
Backflow prevention Customers must have county-approved backflow prevention installed before receiving reclaimed water. Contact Cross Connection Control for testing/reporting questions.
