Brunswick County Water Utilities Login and Account Registration
There is an important difference between the county government’s general website account and its water billing account. For water bills, use the dedicated myBrunswick County billing portal.
Open the Customer Portal and enter your existing login/email and password.
Select “Set Up Online Access.” Keep your recent water bill available for account verification and follow the registration prompts.
Forgot Your Login or Password?
- Visit the official login page.

The portal also provides access to bill copies and account usage history, which can be useful when investigating a higher-than-normal water bill.
Brunswick County Water Bill Payment Options

Pay Your Water Bill by Phone
If you do not want to use the online portal, the county publishes a specific automated phone payment procedure:
- Call 800-272-9829.
- Select Option 3.
- Enter jurisdiction code 3951.
- Enter your utility account number.
- Follow the prompts to submit card payment information.
- Record your payment confirmation.
Set Up Automatic Bank Drafting
Automatic bank drafting may help if you regularly forget your due date. Instead of manually paying each month, the amount owed is withdrawn from your checking or savings account on the due date.
You need:
- A completed Bank Draft Authorization Form.
- A voided check.
- A copy of your driver’s license.
- The original signature required by Utility Billing.
Find the authorization form on the official payment options page. Submit the documents according to the county’s instructions, and keep paying your bills normally until the automatic draft is confirmed as active.

Pay by Mail
Use the payment address printed on your current water bill and the county-provided return envelope. Enclose the payment stub and write your account number on the check.
The county advises allowing approximately 7–10 days for mailing to avoid late payment. If your bank’s online bill-pay system sends a paper check, mailing time still matters.
Do not mail cash. The county’s P.O. Box 469 address is provided for service application and other Utility Billing correspondence; use the payment lockbox address on your bill for routine mailed payments.
Water and Sewer Payment Fees, Rates and Deposits
Payment processing fees are separate from water usage charges. Your regular utility bill can include water service, sewer service and other charges applicable to your account.
| Charge | Published Amount | When It Applies |
|---|---|---|
| Portal electronic check | $0 convenience fee | Online e-check payments. |
| Debit card convenience fee | $2.95 | Per card transaction. |
| Credit card convenience fee | 2.6%, minimum $1 | Card payments. |
| New service / owner deposit | $50 | Applicable water and/or sewer account applications. |
| Rental account deposit | $150 | Tenant water and/or sewer service applications. |
Brunswick County publishes separate water and sewer rate schedules for FY 2026–2027, effective July 1, 2026. Charges depend on service type, usage, meter and other account factors, so one flat monthly amount would be misleading.
Check the official FY 2026–2027 water and sewer rate schedules before estimating your bill.
Start, Transfer or Stop Water Service in Brunswick County
If you are moving into a home in Bolivia, Southport, Leland or another Brunswick County community, verify the water provider shown on the property records or previous bill. Some locations use municipal utilities, private systems or Brunswick Regional – H2GO rather than direct county billing.
Opening a New Water or Sewer Account
- Check that Brunswick County provides the service. Contact Utility Billing at 910-253-2655 and confirm the service address.
- Open the county’s application instructions. Visit Apply for Utility Services.
- Download and complete the application. Fill in Section A completely and review the county’s customer guidelines.
- Prepare identification and agreements. Provide the required driver’s license copies and signed water and/or sewer service agreements.
- Include the property documents. Existing-property buyers must provide the applicable settlement statement showing the ownership change. Renters must submit a fully executed rental agreement or lease.
- Confirm connection fees and deposit. The county lists a $50 deposit for new/owner service and a $150 deposit for tenant accounts. Ask for the complete amount due.
- Submit your documents. Email utilitybilling@brunswickcountync.gov, mail the packet to P.O. Box 469, Bolivia, NC 28422, or return it to the billing office at 3769 Old Ocean Highway.
- Confirm your activation date. Contact Utility Billing to ensure the account is established and service is scheduled for the date you need.
Stopping Service When You Move Out
When selling or leaving a property, contact Utility Billing and request a final meter reading date. Provide a forwarding address so the county can issue the final bill or return any eligible deposit balance.
Keep a copy of your request and verify the final service date, especially if you are coordinating a property closing.
Special Note for Southport Residents
Southport transferred its water and sewer utility customer services to Brunswick County in 2024. Customers receiving Brunswick County bills should use the county’s payment and account-management channels rather than assuming Southport City Hall accepts those payments.
Check the utility name on your statement if you live near a city boundary or have recently purchased a property.

What to Do When Your Bill or Water Service Has a Problem
Payment Was Made but Does Not Appear
Check your portal transaction history and bank or card records. If the payment is still missing, call Utility Billing with the payment date, amount, account number and confirmation receipt. Avoid making a second payment until you know whether the first transaction succeeded.
Your Water Bill Suddenly Increased
Compare the latest statement with previous bills. Look at billed water consumption, not just the total dollar amount.
- Check whether a toilet continues running after flushing.
- Inspect faucets, outdoor hoses and irrigation timers.
- Compare current usage with the same season last year.
- Consider recent visitors, additional occupants or heavy landscaping use.
- Ask Utility Billing about meter readings or unusual consumption if nothing explains the change.
Coastal Brunswick County tip: Irrigation and seasonal occupancy can make summer water usage very different from winter usage. Before disputing a bill, compare the actual gallons used and the service period.
Received a Late or Disconnection Notice
Check the exact amount and deadline shown on the notice. Call 910-253-2655, option 2, before the deadline and ask whether a payment arrangement or assistance program is available.
If you have already paid, provide your receipt and confirm whether the utility has posted the payment. Do not assume that a bank transaction showing “pending” means the utility has received the funds.
Water Pressure Is Low or Water Is Not Running
First check whether the issue affects only one faucet or the entire property. If neighbors are also affected, there may be a system-related problem.
For water supply or sewer maintenance problems, contact Public Utilities at 910-253-2657, option 1. For an urgent after-hours utility emergency, use the published emergency contact numbers.
Finding Help With an Unpaid Water Bill
Customers experiencing financial difficulty should ask Utility Billing about available assistance or payment options before a disconnection date.
Brunswick Family Assistance, a local community assistance organization, has also been identified as a potential resource for utility bill help:
- Brunswick Family Assistance
- 929 Old Ocean Highway, Bolivia, NC 28422
- Phone: 910-754-4766
Assistance depends on current funding, eligibility and documentation. Contact the organization before visiting.
October 2026 Water Conservation Update for Brunswick County
Brunswick County experienced significant drought-related water restrictions during the summer of 2026. However, on October 16, 2026, Brunswick County Public Utilities officially rescinded its Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert.
That means the earlier countywide Stage 3 mandatory restrictions and subsequent Stage 1 voluntary alert should not be presented as currently active based only on older notices.
Recommended Outdoor Watering Schedule
Although the alert was lifted, the county encouraged customers to maintain an odd/even address watering pattern:
| Property Address | Recommended Watering Periods |
|---|---|
| Odd-numbered addresses | Tuesday 8 PM–Wednesday 4 AM Thursday 8 PM–Friday 4 AM Saturday 8 PM–Sunday 4 AM |
| Even-numbered addresses | Wednesday 8 PM–Thursday 4 AM Friday 8 PM–Saturday 4 AM Sunday 8 PM–Monday 4 AM |
This is a recommended schedule in the October 16 notice, not an active Stage 3 restriction. Properties using private wells, retention ponds or separate systems such as H2GO may have different guidance.
For future changes, check Brunswick County Public Utilities and the county’s official alerts.
