Utility service scale
The City’s Utility Services Department serves water and wastewater infrastructure for Fort Lauderdale neighbors, visitors, and connected neighboring areas.
Large-user wastewater treatment agreements include Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Wilton Manors, Port Everglades, and parts of Davie and Tamarac.
| Local entity | Why it matters | Use this route |
|---|---|---|
| City of Fort Lauderdale | Main municipal service billing area for water, wastewater, sanitation, stormwater-related charges, and account service. | Utility Billing & Collections, 954-828-5150. |
| Broward County / Broward service boundaries | Some nearby properties may be served by Broward County Water and Wastewater Services, not City of Fort Lauderdale. | Check the logo/name on the bill before paying. |
| Oakland Park / Wilton Manors / Port Everglades / Davie / Tamarac areas | The City provides some treatment services through large-user agreements, but that does not always mean direct retail billing. | Use your bill provider for payment and customer service. |
| Development Services Department | Walk-in utility billing office and kiosk location. | 700 N.W. 19th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. |
Pay or Log In: Pick the Right Option
Activate access
Verify account number, house number, and ZIP code from the bill.
| Payment method | Official detail | Best for | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online One Time Pay | InvoiceCloud accepts online payment and states one-time pay is fastest for online confirmation. | Quick payment without creating an account. | Credit/debit card convenience fee applies. |
| Customer Self Service | View/pay bills 24/7, go paperless, schedule payments, use credit card or EFT/ACH, Auto Pay, Pay by Text, and reminders. | Recurring customers and account history. | First-time users must activate online access. |
| Phone IVR | Call 954-828-5150, option 1. The City says payment posts immediately. | Fast phone payment or balance check. | Have the account number ready before calling. |
| Walk-in payment | Utility Billing & Collections, Development Services Department, 700 N.W. 19th Avenue. | Users needing in-person help or receipt. | Lobby hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. |
| Self-service kiosk | Kiosk in DSD main lobby for payments only. Accepts cash, check, money order, credit/debit cards. | Immediate kiosk posting. | Cash option does not take coins and does not give change; overpayment credits the utility account. |
| ACH / EFT | Recurring ACH or one-time EFT is listed as no merchant fee. | Avoiding card fee. | Confirm enrollment before relying on auto payment. |
Merchant fee: City pages state credit/debit card payments incur a third-party merchant transaction fee ranging from $1.95 to 2.95% of the payment. Recurring ACH and one-time EFT are not charged that fee.
Past-Due, Disconnected or Kiosk Payment
Late penalty
Utility bills are due upon receipt. The City’s utility application states a 1% penalty applies to balances not paid within 25 days of the billing date.
Kiosk late payment
Late payments can be made at the kiosk. If service is disconnected for non-payment, call 954-828-5150.
Restoration timing
The City FAQ says service is restored within one business day after the entire past-due balance plus the $44 delinquent fee is received.
| Situation | Do this first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Past-due notice | Call 954-828-5150 and ask exact amount required today. | A payment confirmation alone may not clear all fees or service risk. |
| Disconnected for non-payment | Pay full past-due balance plus delinquent fee, then call Customer Service. | Turn-on order depends on full required payment. |
| Returned payment | Call immediately and ask how to cure the account. | The application states returned unpaid payments may result in immediate service interruption without further notice. |
| Bank bill-pay sent | Ask whether City can see the payment. | Bank confirmation does not always equal City posting. |
Start New Water Service in 2026
Important 2026 change: starting March 1, 2026, only property owners can establish new utility billing accounts. Tenants can receive bills “in care of” the property owner.

High Bill: Meter, Leak and Adjustment Checks
Meter location
City meters are usually in a concrete box near the street.
Monthly reads
The City reads water meters every month unless the meter is inaccessible or obstructed.
Leak check
Turn off water use. If the meter dial moves, there may be a leak.
Irrigation warning
No dial movement does not rule out an irrigation leak after the timer.
| Check | Official detail / practical action | What to collect |
|---|---|---|
| Odometer reading | Read left to right. City reads the thousandth digit and up and does not read the first 3 digits on the black background. | Meter photo, current bill, prior bill. |
| Dial movement | The dial moves only when water passes through the meter. | Confirm all water is off before checking. |
| Common leak points | Guide lists running/leaking toilet, leaking faucet, irrigation crack or detached head, outside spigots, hoses, shower heads, swimming pool, and hot water tank pressure relief valve. | Photos, repair date, plumber or leak specialist note. |
| High use adjustment | Forms page includes residential and commercial high use billing adjustment applications. | Use the correct City form and proof of leak/no-leak finding. |
| Pool or cooling tower | Forms page lists Pool Credit and Cooling Tower Credit applications. | Submit the exact credit form that fits the situation. |
| Meter test | Forms page includes a Meter Test application. | Ask 954-828-5150 before filing if you are unsure. |

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 gallons/month example | $158.88 | $168.89 | $177.13 | Includes combined water/wastewater account example plus utility tax and sanitation rate. |
| 10,000 gallons/month example | $280.31 | $301.25 | $318.48 | Higher usage can move the water portion into higher tiers. |
| Fee / rule | Amount or rule | User action |
|---|---|---|
| Kiosk card fee | $1.95 flat fee per card transaction. | Use ACH/EFT if avoiding card fee matters. |
| Late penalty | 1% penalty on balances not paid within 25 days of billing date. | Pay before the 25-day deadline or call before cutoff. |
| Delinquent fee for restoration | $44 delinquent fee mentioned in City FAQ for restoration after non-payment. | Ask for the exact total before paying. |
| Returned payment | Returned unpaid payments may result in immediate service interruption without further notice. | Do not retry blindly; call Utility Billing. |

Lower the Bill: Conservation, Toilet Rebate and Irrigation
$125 toilet rebate
The City highlights Conservation Pays: replace an older water-guzzling toilet with a WaterSense high-efficiency model and receive a $125 rebate.
Irrigation meter
A separate irrigation meter can reduce sewer costs for sprinkler systems or pools, but installation has meter, deposit, and set-fee costs.
Smart meters
Rate-increase page says automated water meter technology will help neighbors monitor usage and detect leaks.
